MBBS DRCOG PhD FFFP Dr Anne Szarewski is a Clinical Consultant at Cancer Research UK’s Centre for Epidemiology, Mathematics and Statistics at the Wolfson Institute of Preventive Medicine where she manages multi-centre clinical trials of cervical cancer screening and management. Dr Szarewski is also an Associate Specialist in Family Planning at The Margaret Pyke Centre. Dr Szarewski holds several external, professional positions including Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Family Planning and Reproductive Health Care, Instructing Doctor in Family Planning, and Member of the Board of Directors for the European Cervical Cancer Association (ECCA). Dr Szarewski has published several books including “Preventing Cervical Cancer: What Every Woman Should Know” (2007), “Contraceptive Dilemmas: A Practical Approach” (2006), “The Cervical Smear Test: A Woman's Guide” (1994), and co-authored “Contraception: A User’s Handbook” (2002). She has published a number of scientific papers relating to cervical screening methods, different ways of taking smears and HPV testing as a screening method. She also published a study looking at the effect of smoking cessation on cervical lesion size, and “The ‘pill scare’, responses of authorities, doctors, and patients using oral contraception” (1999). Dr Szarewski has written many review articles and conference reports for General Practice and Nursing publications, as well as health features for Vogue and Marie Claire. In addition, she has written for the ‘Real Life Doctor’ column in Take A Break magazine, and is a member of the ‘expert panel’ for Health and Fitness magazine. |
The Cervical Cancer Initiative is a multidisciplinary group which has come together with the shared aim of increasing awareness about the link between HPV and cervical cancer and encouraging communication and education around cervical cancer prevention.
